LuLu's Desperate House Dogs (formerly the Bow Wow Blog)
LuLu's Desperate House Dogs is a blog about an eccentric little Beagle named LuLu, who, along with her sister Sadie (a Whippet/Terrier/Beagle blend), writes the lurid Puppies in Lust series, and absorbs local color in an idyllic, off-the-leash, canine-centered village known as Lincoln Park~

From the journals of the Fly on the Wall...
War has come to Lincoln Park in the form of a Boxer rebellion many miles away...and it will forever change the lives and fortunes of lovers LuLu and Rockie...
"Why are the Boxers rebelling?" LuLu asked Rockie, delighting in the feel of his paws against her own. It had been a long time since they had been so close.
"They have grievances," he replied, "some legitimate, some not. The thing is, we have treaties and commitments. Lincoln Park has sworn to uphold the rights of the Huskies in Wisconsin, and we also have a pact with the Chihuahuas in Colorado, who are themselves strongly backed by the Indiana Schnauzers."
LuLu tightened her grip on his paws. "You said this was serious."
"All wars are serious, LuLu, but this one has the potential to be especially so because the Boxers have a strong treaty with the Nebraska Wolfhounds, who in turn are backed by the Illinois Fox terriers. The Iowa Komodors can go either way, and the Kansas Papillons are also iffy. The Oklahoma Whippets are almost certain to back the Boxers, so as you can see, we've got a real mess on our paws."
LuLu's stomach started to hurt her and she began to pant. "This sounds like the makings of a civil war."
Rockie nodded. "I'm afraid that's exactly what it is."
"You're going out there, arent you? You're leaving Lincoln Park and going to war!"
Rockie hung his massive head. "I have to go, LuLu. I'm the king. At such times, it's my duty to lead the dogfight."
LuLu ripped her paws from his grasp, tore across the park and picked up a stick, which she began to gnaw on furiously. Rockie followed her.
"LuLu, I may be gone for a very long time."
"You've been gone before," she said, her bark sounding distant and strange, even to her.
"This time it's different. I could be gone for ... years."

LuLu dropped the stick. "I want to go with you," she arfed.
"No," he told her. "You would be a prime target. I can't take the chance."
LuLu got to her paws and began to pace. "I can't go with you?" she howled. "Well, what am I supposed to do? You said YEARS. You might be gone for years. For Dog's sake, Rockie! What on earth is left to us as a couple?"
He darted forward and picked up the stick she had dropped. "We once promised to always chase sticks together."
She sat down and cocked her head. "Rockie, I'm serious."
"So am I."
"We could get leash-locked," she suggested.
He dropped the stick. "No, LuLu."
"You don't love me enough?"
"I love you too much. If anything happened to me, you would have to fight off every usurper to the throne who came bolting out of a kennel. It's better if we leave it like this."
A strangled little woof escaped her. "Which is nowhere."
"LuLu," said the king, "the time we've spent together has meant everything to me. I've had other bitches and you've had other dogs -- but none of it's mattered much as far as I'm concerned. I've always loved you and I will continue to love you -- forever."
"But now we have to sniff on different turf?"
He nodded, the pain in his dark eyes expressing the dreadful ache he felt all the way down to his stifles.
LuLu stretched out beside him. "Bet I can make it to the lake before you can take this stick from me!" she barked, immediately leaping to her paws, grabbing it and running as fast as she could.
Rockie charged after her.
"I made it! I made it!" she howled, as she reached the beach.
He gently took the stick from her and padded into the water. The two of them romped together until the sun began to set.

"It's time for me to leave," Rockie told her.
"I can ask Dog to watch over you," she said, "but I don't know how to say good-bye to you. The bark just won't come."
"Then let's not bark anything at all," he said. "Listen, one more time -- I'll bet I can't catch you..."
She jumped up, grabbed the stick and ran off down the beach.
Rockie watched her go -- her soft ears flapping, her proud tail erect, the sand swirling around her paws like mad snowflakes.
But this time he didn't go after her.
A minute later she turned around and saw him padding across the park, going away from her, heading toward his limousine.
LuLu stood there, holding the stick in her mouth, until the car moved slowly out of the park and finally disappeared altogether into the eerie stillness of a deep blue twilight.
After a long time she padded back to the lake, sat down and dropped the stick.
She stared into the lake until the moon rose overhead.
"Good-bye, Rockie," she barked at last.
